In the fishing village of Hamnavoe there is a shop selling most every-day foodstuffs, which doubles as a Post Office. It is also only 10 miles from Shetland's capital, Lerwick. There is a regular bus-service which takes you straight into Lerwick.
Burra
Close to the cottage just outside Hamnavoe is a lighthouse which makes a nice walk. There
are also nice beaches to be found on Burra. Further South in Burra there is spectacular coastal scenery. Nothing but sea between Burra and the North American continent.
Scalloway
The ancient capital of Scalloway is only ten minutes drive away where you can find more shops, a hotel, public park, swimming pool, museum and a local pub. Scalloway has a scenic fishing harbour and small 17th century castle.
